Is edible cannabis safer than smoked cannabis?

The answer to this question is not as simple as one might assume.

Both offer advantages and present potential disadvantages for safe consumption. Edibles can provide hours of relief and enjoyment but take a while to take effect. Users, especially those unfamiliar with edibles, can grow impatient waiting for the high to occur and consume more edible than needed. The result could be increased anxiety, paranoia, dizziness, and dehydration. Homemade edibles present dosage challenges, and edibles purchased at a cannabis dispensary near you may resemble regular, non-cannabis treats and pose a risk of accidental ingestion by children and pets.

Smoking, vaping, or dabbing provides immediate relief and desired effects quicker than edibles. The high is also shorter, making it easier for users to gauge intake and prevent overindulgence. However, while studies appear to indicate that smoking cannabis does not pose the same level of risk as smoking tobacco, smoking cannabis can reduce lung function and contribute to respiratory health problems like bronchitis. A significant difference between the two is that tobacco contains nicotine, which is addictive. In contrast, cannabis contains cannabinoids, which have been shown to kill cancer types, including lung, breast, prostate, and others.

Like many facets of enjoying cannabis, deciding between edible cannabis and inhaled cannabis products should come down to a personal preference, taking into account existing lung and heart issues, convenience, and preferred method of consumption.
