Bubba Kush strain: what the lab panels show
Bubba Kush is widely told as a late-1990s cross of an OG Kush and an indica, credited to the grower Matt Berger, called Bubba. Among the products on the Las Vegas superstore's shelf that carry a lab panel, Bubba Kush comes as one vape from Kanha.
What it is
In Berger's own account, as one strain database reports it, Northern Lights seeds were pollinated by a Kush plant around 1997; strain listings give its mother as an indica from New Orleans and its date as just after 1996. Another account has the Florida cut of OG Kush crossed with a plant called Bubba, and one has it making its name in Los Angeles. Both tie it to the 1990s growers who brought the early OG Kush from Florida to California.
A Bubba Kush entry, Tehama Herbal Collective's, placed third among indicas at the 2010 High Times Medical Cannabis Cup in San Francisco, by the cup's list of winners. All of that is the circulated history, not a lab fact.
What is on our shelf now
Among the products on the Las Vegas superstore's shelf that carry a lab panel, Bubba Kush comes as one vape from Kanha. The vape tests 89.1% THC. Vapes are extracts, so their THC reads far higher than plain flower's. Caryophyllene leads its panel (warm and peppery, clove and black pepper, in the terpene guide's words), with limonene and bisabolol next. Our per-batch grade, set by each panel rather than by the name, calls the batch on our shelf hybrid.
| Product | Format | THC | Leading terpenes | Our grade |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kanha Bubba Kush 1g Vape Cartridge | Vape | 89.1% | caryophyllene 0.86%, limonene 0.50%, bisabolol 0.35% | Hybrid |
From our latest menu update. The grade is the five-class spectrum, read from each batch's own panel; the product page always shows the current batch. Search Bubba Kush on the live menu.
What that means for you
A name this old has been cloned and relabelled for decades, so two products called Bubba Kush can be different plants. Read the panel, then the grade: the five-class spectrum sets each batch by its own terpenes rather than by the name.
Questions people ask about Bubba Kush
Is Bubba Kush indica or sativa?
Bubba Kush is usually described as an indica, though one listing calls it a hybrid. That is its reputation, not a lab fact. Our per-batch grade, set by each panel rather than by the name, calls the batch on our shelf hybrid.
How strong is Bubba Kush?
The vape tests 89.1% THC. Vapes are extracts, so their THC reads far higher than plain flower's. THC is a batch figure, not a property of the name, so the next batch can differ.
What does Bubba Kush smell and taste like?
Caryophyllene leads its panel (warm and peppery, clove and black pepper, in the terpene guide's words), with limonene and bisabolol next. Terpenes are a large part of a strain's smell and flavor, which is why we read the panel rather than the name; sulfur compounds a terpene panel does not measure add the skunky note some strains carry.
What effects does Bubba Kush have?
Effects vary from person to person and from batch to batch, so we do not promise any. What a panel tells you is the chemistry: which terpenes lead, and the grade it earns on the five-class spectrum, shown in this page's shelf table for each batch whose panel carries them.
Who is Bubba Kush named after?
The stories differ. Some name it after the grower Matt Berger, called Bubba; others say Bubba was the name of the plant crossed with an OG Kush. Both are the circulated story, not a record.
Where can I buy Bubba Kush in Las Vegas?
At Planet 13's Las Vegas superstore, where today's shelf includes one vape of it with a lab panel. The shelf changes batch to batch, so search the live menu before you visit.
