Taking a medication? Who to ask about cannabis
We cannot tell you if it is all right to use cannabis while you take Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Adderall or any other medication: ask your physician, or whoever prescribed it, first and your pharmacist second, because that answer is theirs to give and no budtender can give it for them.
The warning on Nevada's buyer notice
Nevada requires every cannabis store to provide a written or electronic notice with the cannabis and cannabis products it sells, carrying warnings the state sets. One of them, word for word: "Ingesting cannabis or cannabis products with alcohol or other drugs, including prescription medication, may result in unpredictable levels of impairment and a person should consult with a physician before doing so." It is section 678B.617(2)(f) of the Nevada Administrative Code.
What a label can tell you, and what it cannot
A product's label shows what it is and the cannabinoid profile and potency its testing laboratory found. Whether it is all right with what you are prescribed is not on it, and it is outside what a budtender can judge; a guess across a counter would not serve you.
The two people to ask
- First, your physician or whoever prescribed the medication.
- Then your pharmacist.
What to take with you
When you ask them, have your prescriptions with you, or a list of them with their doses, and the name of the cannabis product you have in mind with the numbers on its label; a photo of the label works. Nevada bars the sale of any cannabis until an independent testing laboratory has run the required tests, and the label must show the cannabinoid profile and potency that laboratory found; our guide to reading a lab label shows where to look.
