Cannabis in Las Vegas: the rules for buying and using it
Anyone 21 or older with an accepted ID can buy cannabis in Las Vegas, no medical card needed, up to 2.5 ounces of usable cannabis, less with concentrates or edibles, to use only in private or a licensed lounge, never in public or a vehicle, and never to take out of Nevada; visiting medical patients are protected within Nevada's limits.
Who can buy
Anyone 21 or older with an ID the Cannabis Compliance Board accepts. Residency does not matter and no medical card is needed. Most foreign driver's licenses and ID cards are not accepted, so a visitor from outside the U.S. brings a passport; a Canadian driver's license also works. The full list is in the board's notice on acceptable identification. No one under 21 is allowed inside Planet 13.
Paying
Planet 13 accepts cash, Pay by Bank, and credit and debit cards other than American Express and Discover, tap to pay included, with ATMs on site. Whether a phone wallet works at the register is not certain; our FAQ says who to call before you count on one.
How much you may carry
Nevada law sets an adult's limit at two and a half ounces of usable cannabis and a quarter ounce of concentrated cannabis, with edibles and other products limited by the board's regulations (NRS 678D.200). These are not separate allowances to add together: the Cannabis Compliance Board's 2024 exchange chart counts flower and other products against one shared limit, so the more flower you carry, the less of everything else. The same limit is the most a store may sell you in one transaction. Past it, the law's protection ends.
That protection is from state prosecution only. Possessing cannabis is still an offense under federal law, and Nevada's law does not change that (21 U.S.C. 844), so leave it behind when you visit federal land such as Lake Mead National Recreation Area or Red Rock Canyon.
Where you may use it
Not in a public place, not in a cannabis store and not in a vehicle, moving or parked, whether you drive or ride: each is a misdemeanor with a fine of up to $600, and the same law makes a licensed cannabis consumption lounge the exception (NRS 678D.310). Use is also protected in private, out of public view. Most hotels and casinos prohibit cannabis on their property. DAZED, the consumption lounge inside Planet 13, is one such lounge: see The Experience.
Driving
Driving under the influence of cannabis is a crime in Nevada, and being allowed to use cannabis is no defense (NRS 484C.110). The notice every Nevada cannabis store provides with what it sells puts it plainly: "Ingestion of any amount of cannabis or cannabis products before driving may result in criminal prosecution for driving under the influence" (NAC 678B.617).
Taking it home
Cannabis bought in Nevada stays in Nevada. Carrying it across a state line is illegal, even into another state where cannabis is legal, and that includes flying out with it. Every Nevada cannabis store must post a sign saying transportation across state lines is prohibited (NAC 678B.247), and every product's label, on the package or supplied with it, must say the product may be unlawful outside Nevada (NAC 678B.611 and NAC 678B.614).
Medical cards from other states
If you are 21 or older you do not need one to buy here, and no one under 21 is allowed inside Planet 13, card or no card. Nevada law also recognizes visiting patients: someone authorized to use medical cannabis under their home state's law is protected from state prosecution as a Nevada cardholder would be, while they keep to Nevada's medical limits, and a medical cannabis dispensary may serve them when they show a document valid in their home state, such as its medical card (NRS 678C.470). The law lets a dispensary do this without requiring it, so call us at (702) 815-1313 before you count on being served as a patient.
Delivery
Nevada does not allow cannabis delivery to any place with a gaming license (NAC 678B.327), and Planet 13 delivers in the Las Vegas valley to residential addresses only, so hotel and casino guests shop in store: see delivery and plan your visit.
Nothing here is legal advice, and laws change. For use only by adults 21 years of age and older. Keep out of reach of children.
