Girl Scout Cookies strain: what the lab panels show
Girl Scout Cookies, now usually listed as GSC, is widely told as a San Francisco Bay Area cross of an OG Kush cut and a Durban Poison line, bred by Jai Chang of the Cookie Family. Among the products on the Las Vegas superstore's shelf that carry a lab panel, Girl Scout Cookies comes as one vape from Brass Knuckles.
What it is
By the usual account, GSC was bred in the San Francisco Bay Area by Jai Chang, known as Jigga, of the collective called the Cookie Family, and made famous through his partnership with the rapper Berner; one listing credits a grower called George instead. The accounts of its parents differ in the details: the common version is an OG Kush cut crossed with a line called F1 Durban, which the breeders' own account tells as a plant they called F1 crossed with Durban Poison; one listing names Cherry Pie. Its first appearance is put anywhere from about 2005 to about 2012, and one account has it going big around 2011.
The Cookie Family named its strains after desserts. The Girl Scouts of the USA have sent cease-and-desist letters to dispensaries over the name; its breeders' brand is now Cookies, and strain listings usually give it as GSC. It placed second among hybrids at the 2013 High Times Cannabis Cup, entered by Tahoe Wellness Cooperative. Gelato, widely told as a cross of Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, has its own guide. All of that is the circulated history, not a lab fact.
What is on our shelf now
Among the products on the Las Vegas superstore's shelf that carry a lab panel, Girl Scout Cookies comes as one vape from Brass Knuckles. The vape tests 88.7% THC. Vapes are extracts, so their THC reads far higher than plain flower's. Caryophyllene leads its panel (warm and peppery, clove and black pepper, in the terpene guide's words), with limonene and linalool next. Our per-batch grade, set by each panel rather than by the name, calls the batch on our shelf indica-hybrid.
| Product | Format | THC | Leading terpenes | Our grade |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brass Knuckles GSC 2g Live Liquid Diamonds All In One | Vape | 88.7% | caryophyllene 0.36%, limonene 0.22%, linalool 0.17% | Indica-Hybrid |
From our latest menu update. The grade is the five-class spectrum, read from each batch's own panel; the product page always shows the current batch. Search Girl Scout Cookies on the live menu.
What that means for you
A name this widely used, under two names, covers many growers' plants. Read the panel, then the grade: the five-class spectrum sets each batch by its own terpenes rather than by the name, and the terpene guide explains each one.
Questions people ask about Girl Scout Cookies
Is Girl Scout Cookies indica or sativa?
Girl Scout Cookies is described both ways: some strain listings call it a hybrid that leans indica and others one that leans sativa. That is its reputation, not a lab fact. Our per-batch grade, set by each panel rather than by the name, calls the batch on our shelf indica-hybrid.
How strong is Girl Scout Cookies?
The vape tests 88.7% THC. Vapes are extracts, so their THC reads far higher than plain flower's. THC is a batch figure, not a property of the name, so the next batch can differ.
What does Girl Scout Cookies smell and taste like?
Caryophyllene leads its panel (warm and peppery, clove and black pepper, in the terpene guide's words), with limonene and linalool next. Terpenes are a large part of a strain's smell and flavor, which is why we read the panel rather than the name; sulfur compounds a terpene panel does not measure add the skunky note some strains carry.
What effects does Girl Scout Cookies have?
Effects vary from person to person and from batch to batch, so we do not promise any. What a panel tells you is the chemistry: which terpenes lead, and the grade it earns on the five-class spectrum, shown in this page's shelf table for each batch whose panel carries them.
What is GSC?
GSC is the shorter name Girl Scout Cookies is usually listed under now; the Girl Scouts of the USA have objected to the full name in letters to dispensaries, and its breeders' brand is now Cookies. By the usual account it is a San Francisco Bay Area cross of an OG Kush cut and a Durban Poison line, bred by Jai Chang of the Cookie Family.
