Acapulco Gold strain: what the lab panels show
Acapulco Gold is a name that was famous in the 1960s and 1970s, widely told as a Mexican sativa landrace from the hills around Acapulco in Guerrero state. Among the products on the Las Vegas superstore's shelf that carry a lab panel, Acapulco Gold comes as two infused pre-rolls from Rove.
What it is
One of the oldest names still on a menu. By the usual account it is a landrace, a plant shaped by one region over generations, from Guerrero state around Acapulco; other accounts place its roots elsewhere in Mexico, so its exact origin is disputed. That is the circulated history, not a lab fact, and so is its sativa reputation.
What is on our shelf now
Among the products on the Las Vegas superstore's shelf that carry a lab panel, Acapulco Gold comes as two infused pre-rolls from Rove. The infused pre-rolls test 39.6% to 40.3% THC. Infused pre-rolls carry extract, so their THC reads far higher than plain flower's. Caryophyllene and terpinolene each lead one of its two panels (in the terpene guide's words: caryophyllene, warm and peppery, clove and black pepper; terpinolene, fresh and herbal, lightly fruity), with limonene in the top three of every panel. Our per-batch grade, set by each panel rather than by the name, calls one of them sativa; the other is not graded.

What that means for you
A name from the 1960s has passed through many hands, and the versions sold under it differ from grower to grower. The panel is the honest description: read it, then the grade on the five-class spectrum, which sets each batch by its own terpenes rather than by the old label.

Caryophyllene and terpinolene each lead one of its two panels (in the terpene guide's words: caryophyllene, warm and peppery, clove and black pepper; terpinolene, fresh and herbal, lightly fruity), with limonene in the top three of every panel. Terpenes are a large part of a strain's smell and flavor, which is why we read the panel rather than the name; sulfur compounds a terpene panel does not measure add the skunky note some strains carry.
