Jack Herer strain: its lineage and history

Jack Herer is a Sensi Seeds strain, launched in the Netherlands in 1994 and named for the cannabis activist Jack Herer; its parents are usually given as a Haze, Northern Lights #5 and a Skunk. Jack Herer is not on the Las Vegas superstore's shelf at our latest menu update; the live menu shows when a new batch arrives.

What it is

Sensi Seeds bred it in the Netherlands and launched it in 1994, dedicating it to Jack Herer, the activist and author of the 1985 book The Emperor Wears No Clothes. The usual account names a Haze, Northern Lights #5 and Shiva Skunk; another, Sensi's own description as one strain listing quotes it, names Skunk #1 in place of Shiva Skunk. One account credits Alan Dronkers, the son of Sensi's founder, as its breeder.

It won the 1994 High Times Cannabis Cup and took first place among sativas at the 1999 Cup, both entered by Sensi Seeds. Sour Jack, widely told as a Sour Diesel and Jack Herer cross, has its own guide. All of that is the circulated history, not a lab fact.

What that means for you

A name this famous has been grown by many hands for decades, so read a batch's terpenes and its grade on the five-class spectrum rather than the name.
